Current Focus

Phillip De Leon is an electrical engineer, educator, and academic leader with a background in digital signal processing, machine learning, and embedded systems. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics from the University of Texas at Austin, followed by a Master of Science and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Colorado Boulder. He has served as a professor at New Mexico State University and held research leadership and administrative roles at both NMSU and the University of Colorado Denver, where he has contributed to advancing research initiatives, academic programs, and student success.

A native of San Antonio, Texas, Phillip developed an early passion for mathematics, science, and computing through academic competitions and summer pre-college enrichment programs, experiences that helped shape his path toward engineering. Outside of his professional life, he has long pursued sports and outdoor activities, including marathon running and cycling. Now based in Colorado, he enjoys skiing, hiking, and mountain activities, reflecting a lifelong balance between intellectual pursuits and active living.
